Is it worth it to try to keep these gals or should I just go ahead and release them?

Is it even really possible? I've done some research and they seem to be totally subterranean and live on Root Aphids. Didn't even know they existed. LOL  Do they accept different food?

 

If I do try how long should I give it to find a suitable species?

Will these girls lose they're wings before I try to introduce workers or I shouldn't worry about that? how long does that take? Should I feed them in the meantime?

My claviger queen only has two workers and she has the most brood of all my social parasites.

Gonna let this post be the Start of my Journal! :D

 

Well 24 hours later I still have a Queen and 5 workers in each tube!! :yahoo:  I've seen the workers interacting with the Queens as well grooming and such. So now it's a wait and see kinda game! :D

I gave each tube a piece of small wax worm and a tiny dot of Honey. So far the wax worm is untouched and the honey only by the queens.

We'll see if I can pull this off! Fingers crossed! :D

I just got my queen 8 Lasius americanus host workers. I got mine as a dealate, so hopefully she is fertile. :)

Small Update:

 

They didn't appear interested in the small wax worm bits and they were pretty dried today so I decided to try meal worm bits. We'll see. :)

I did catch workers drinking honey though so things seem to be going ok! :D

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies. 

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

What host workers are you using? I’ve got four Lasius interjectus queens as well, and they rejected L. alienus and L. neoniger.
