I’ve caught two Pogonomyrmex badius queens last week and since than they’ve been tearing at the cotton. I’ve changed the volume of water in the test tubes I’ve read somewhere harvester ants don’t tolerate too much water, what seems to slow them down on tearing is replicating the Florida heat. I’ve moved the queens from my reptile heating cord to my garage it’s always hot but it’s not solving the main issue just delaying it. Any solutions?

While I don't have experience that specific species of Pogonomyrmex I do with several others. If I absolutely have to place them in a test tube then adding some dirt along with her will help her settle in and be more comfortable laying eggs.

Here is a picture of one of my Pogonomyrmex californicus queens that I have founding right now, you can see she dug herself a little hide and has laid eggs on top.
