Ticks are one arachnid I can do without! I'm always worried about the dogs if they are out and about.

Walked into the woods in Maine for 30 seconds once and found four ticks on my pants. Never explored the outdoors in Maine again

Be especially wary in the Northeast. I estimate that I found a combined total of 120 ticks on me just this year from hiking in Massachusetts and New Hampshire (luckily just on my clothing). Check your shoes and pants every few seconds, or else they'll make it past your legs where you can't detect them as well! Also wear bug spray, but don't use it as an excuse not to check yourself.

I've heard people talk about coming home from hiking in our local canyons and foothills and finding all sorts of tics on them, but I have never seen a single one.

They can be very patchy in Southern California. The black legged ticks don't play fair though as they lurk in the leaf littler and don't await you with loving arms on the tip of plants.

We have the Australian Paralysis Tick which injects neurotoxins into the host even if just the head is left imbedded in the flesh. Dogs are at great risk because they will scratch the body off just leaving the head which even if you do check for ticks you'd be lucky to spot. By the time the effects are noticed it's usually too late to save the animal. Other ticks are bad too of course, especially if the head gets left in and becomes infected.

I remember mountain biking around lake hodges and stopping under some big oaks in the shade. After drinking water, I noticed one on the back of my hand, and my dad and I realized they were raining out of the tree on top of us. We noped out of those oaks really fast.

I claim to be a walking bug repellent. People I know around here are always getting bitten by ticks, but even though I'm out in the woods and outdoors in general a lot more than them, ticks seem to leave me alone.

I find them on me a few times a year. The very small ones have been on my while in the leaf litter before.

I have already found over 50 ticks crawling on my cloths, and one bite.
