I found a colony of C. Herc. with both male and female alates. If I were to find another colony and capture several male and female alates from each, would it work to breed them? I'm thinking of building a screened in cage and keeping it outside with them inside of it. This would allow them to be affected by the same environmental triggers that they would experience in the wild.

You are going to need worker ants to care for them until the day they fly. It is a lot easier to just find wild queens after nuptial flights.
