Today me, my little brother, and my friend went around flipping over rocks at the park. This one rock we nudged it a little and all of a sudden it was swarmed with fire ants. My friend managed to flip it over and there was a huge super colony underneath; we saw at least two queen ants. One of them my brother caught and the other got away. We caught some minors, workers, and soldiers. Now my brother has an ant colony!!! :yahoo:  :D

Nice find! As long as you have workers, then I your good. You might also want to help your brother feed them at least twice every day (sugars and protein) since it’s likely a large colony that you found. Good Luck!

I would feed them once or twice a week. Maybe you can post a pic so someone can ID them.

If they’re very small the they are S. molesta or Solonopsis molesta. The heir common name is the Thief ant (even though they dialog don’t enslave brood of other colonies like F. sangueina).

If they’re large with darker red color, then they’re S. invicta (these species are invasive by the way, and tend to have some very annoying stings. Don’t get them in my state even though they might be around).

Yeah and a bunch of other species which haven’t been fully researched in the wild.
