Crystals makes formicariums that are very affordable. She doesn't provide free shipping but I imagine the quote shouldn't be too bad, and would still be plenty cheaper than most of the big name commercial sellers out there.

You could wait around for Drew to randomly sell his makeshift formicariums that are the leftovers of his experiments. =P They often have interesting innovations to them that are meant to make a keeper's life easier.

If you're looking for medium to large, I don't really know any big name commercial sellers that would fit your budget.

EDIT: I lied, I do know a big name commercial seller that might fit your budget (not free shipping though). AntsNational, http://www.antsnational.com/#!shop--cart/c1yvu though I cannot vouch for the quality, but he's been keeping ants for a while and they seem to work well for him.

A Tar Heel Ants Corner Pocket formicarium came out to be ~$65, including shipping.

It looks nice but are there any reviews on it?

You've brought up a very good point about most ant products, in general.

Most ant products are sold in places where the vendor can curate and prune reviews they do not agree with—that is, if they even allow for reviews of their products on the site in the first place.  Some "reviews" found in forums may be acceptable, but they are often scattered across the web, making them difficult to locate.

The only reviews I trust, personally, are ones found where the product is being sold on a third-party website, such as Amazon.com.  These reviews are unable to be curated by the manufacturer, and are a more accurate representation of the product, provided there are more than one or two reviews to judge.

On an unrelated note, byFormica will be introducing two new lines of formicaries in just a few days, and AntsCanada will also be introducing a new line in a few days, as well.  So you may want to wait a week or two to see if something new comes along that you may like.

If you don't need the formicariums immediately, I'd also have to agree with waiting them out. The technology in formicariums today are not going to be as good as the ones that will come out a year from now or two years from now. The industry is always innovating and you never know what cool stuff they're going to bring out even the next month.

Tarheelants make Quality formicariums.. I ordered "piece of haven" very nice. 65 USD shipped. includes water towers and all. VERY good quality, made to order. Not like gro-tubes. its worth it. he has cheaper ones like inception chamber and stuff. they're like ~35 but he is great at responding to emails aswell. I'd recommend. Good luck.

So you have tried the grotube. How is it? What major flaws or benefits do you think it has? Ps, he most likely solved his problem by now as this was posted over 3 months ago.
