Basically, I've been looking for an ant queen or colony for sale, so I went to AntsCanada. Sadly there were no GAN farmers in my state so I had to go looking by hand outside. It's been a few weeks since I started looking with no luck, so I asked a friend for suggestions. They answered, "Go to AntsCanada, they're great!" Since I knew that was not going to help as there are no GAN farmers nearby I continued on, determined to catch one, when, that very same day I got my book that was all about ants, and it explained that they only came out in certain months, in certain temperatures after certain rain conditions depending on the ant species. So, can someone please tell me if they have ants for sale near me? I'd prefer Lasius Niger, but, I'm not that picky anymore. Also, if there are no ants that you can sell at this time, ca you leave some tips for this beginner? Thanks, EmberMyAnts.

Camponotus spp. are starting to fly now in Indiana, and the bulk of them will continue to until mid - late July.

They are extremely common and large, so keep an eye out for them.

You can find additional information on when different species fly here

Although I can't sell you ants as I live in Canada, hopefully the information I passed along to you helps you find some queens of your own.

Are there really no ants for sale in Indiana? Well, if there are really not any, any tips on how to catch some? I will edit the top to ask for tips if not ants.

#1 tip: always carry containers.

#2 tip: always watch the ground as you walk

#3 tip: check all flippable objects

We don't have Lasius niger here in the states. We have a similar species called Lasius neoniger and several other Lasius species (you can check reported species in Indiana here: https://www.antweb.o...e=United States ). As for ant's for sale, I'm not sure if any of the fellow Indiana people are selling or not. I think AntsAreUs is down around Indy, so a bit closer to you. You could try to DM him on here or on the Discord (you should join the discord anyway, we need more Indiana people, haha). Not sure if he's selling anything or not though.

As for finding queens, keep an eye on both here in the queen spotting thread and the discord for nuptial flight reports. Also keep an eye out after it rains on warm days for the most part. Camponotus supposedly fly around dusk. After them the next major flights are the Tetramorium immigrans flights I believe.

Depending on what you're looking for, you could also try flipping rocks and logs trying to find a colony or founding queen. Doing it that way though is tricky because you may not find the queen and the time it takes to find them.

EDIT: Just realized that it doesn't show Tetramorium immigrans on that link... which is odd since we definitely have it here.

EDIT EDIT: And if you really wanted one and didn't want to wait to find your own, I could try shipping you one of my extra Tetramorium immigrans colonies (only has nanitics + brood in a test tube) if you paid shipping. Never shipped ants though, so not sure what all goes into that.

Thank you so much! This will help me a lot in trying to find some ant queens! I really want some ant queens, so I will probably turn down your offer about the nanitics and brood, but, thank you!

EDIT: Didn’t see the post above the one I was talking about. Thank you too!

Sorry I wasn’t very clear on that last part. The Tetramorium colony has a queen, nanitics, and brood. I was just letting you know it was a very small colony.

I think catching your own is the best though. That thrill of finding them and then when they found.

Because we live in Southern Indiana and it is such a long drive, I'm going to keep looking for now, but if I have no luck in the next month or so, I might contact you again. Thank you so much for the kind offer!

EDIT: I just re-read your post and realized you could ship it. I will talk about costs and addresses in private mail. Thank you so much you are a life saver!!
