I found a bunch of these queens this year and kept three colonies. Right now the largest has 13 workers.

Cool. They remind me of C. sedulus or C. irritabilis winkleri with the majors' colouration. I don't understand how people can compare these with Dinomyrmex gigas. They aren't even close in size and certainly do not look the same. D. gigas looks more like some weird cross of Camponotus and Opisthopsis, not to mention the insane size difference.

Young ant keeper with a decent amount of knowledge on local ant species.

YouTube: https://m.youtube.co...uKsahGliSH7EqOQ (It's pretty dead. Might upload again soon, don't expect my voice to sound the same though.)

Currently kept ant species, favorites have a star in front of their names (NOT in alphabetical order, also may be outdated sometimes): Camponotus irritans inferior, Ooceraea biroi, Pheidole parva, Nylanderia sp., Paraparatrechina tapinomoides, Platythyrea sp., Anochetus sp., Colobopsis sp. (cylindrica group), Crematogaster ferrarii, Polyrhachis (Myrma) cf. pruinosa, Polyrhachis (Cyrtomyrma) laevissima, Tapinoma sp. (formerly Zatapinoma)

Death count: Probably over a hundred individual queens and colonies by now. I cannot recall whatsoever.

I don't think anyone is saying they are similar in size. It's the coloration.

Well, most people say that Camponotus us-ca02 is a “mini gigas”. It’s really based on color, nobody every really said they are similar in size.

Update 12-4-2023

My largest colony has 20 workers now. :) It also has about 13 more cocoons, so the worker count should be going up way higher than any of these colonies I've ever had. On top of that, all three queens have just laid a bunch of new eggs too. The only thing I've done differently with these colonies is I've been feeding them like crazy.

They sure eat a lot don’t they? Huge ants with a huge appetite. What do you feed them?
