Hello all! Next Thursday I am heading to Florida for a week and a half and would like to know exactly what ants I’m gonna find and what’s currently flying. I’m of course expecting the usual suspects like longicornis, megacephala and Invicta but I’m also really wondering if some of the rarer species like trachymyrmex, cyphomyrmex, cephalotes and odontomachus have started. I’m going to be in the keys, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando for the trip and I’m going to be making a full journal on it in the next week. Could any antkeepers familiar with the region pitch in or anyone else who knows? It would be highly appreciated! (I of course know I can’t take live ones home I’m talking about preserving them as specimens)

Taking ants across state lines is illegal if that's what you are planning on doing, if not season has currently just started down here. The only fliers I have seen are pseudomyrmex and Solenopsis invicta, and on my trip to Fort Lauderdale last week I didn't see anything.

You could get a good idea of the ant species in a location by using antweb.org and then using the flight chart dspdrew made that is on the homepage.

don't worry, i was only planning on pinning them for my insect collection. Any tips for finding these species?
