I can't tell if it's hairy or not! But, I think it's Camponotus pennsylvanicus. The queen's head does seem pretty small, however, for that ID.

I agree with Camponotus modoc. C. pennsylvanicus is not usually found this far west, despite being almost identical to Camponotus modoc. Great catch!

I agree with Camponotus modoc. C. pennsylvanicus is not usually found this far west, despite being almost identical to Camponotus modoc. Great catch!
