Lasius Niger colonies are found in NY correct? And the US in general

Extremely rarely to both. Odds are you will find closely related species in the Lasius genus.

True to some extent. Lasius niger are black garden ants, that live mostly in Asia, or in Europe. Nonetheless, some places in America have Lasius niger, or other Lasius species.

You will probably find Lasius Neoniger, pretty much the same
