Some ants do best in dirt where their nests are completely dark. This is probably one of them.

Could be. I’d always shoot for a tubs and tubes setup though.

I tried that. They actually do best in rotting pine trees, but dirt is the next best thing.

So they ate some more termites just now, and they have some small larvae and seven queens.

Yep! The colony I collected them from had several thousand workers and hundreds of queens.

Lol, it’s and any keeping hazard. I’m crazy and sometimes I try to get stung, just to keep my emotions in check. No I don’t.

Woah! I really under estimated their growth rate! They have tons of large larvae! Some are already pupating! The workers brought some on to the surface of the nest.

Deeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaattttttthhhhhhhhh! Four workers remaining. Five queens. I didn't see any activity for a while so I went in. Death. Everywhere. I blame it on bad drainage.

Do you have a false bottom? That should help with drainage.

I caught another colony of these with over 8 queens and 80 workers + tons of brood!

This species intrigues me. I think I know where to find them near me.

They have a painful sting, and are termite specialists.
