Welcome! I've always wanted to keep Aphaenogaster, but I've never been able to find them. You've joined in the down season - forum traffic starts to pick up again come spring, so don't be surprised if things are a bit slow right now.

Welcome to the forum! North Carolina has a lot of interesting genera including pseudomyrmex, trachymyrmex and pheidole. Nuptial flights probably won’t start for a few months but flipping rocks can still yield Queens and small colonies. We also have a few people on the forums from your state that could help you out more. Happy anting!

That's to be expected. Figured I would get a jump start at looking at some forums. I enjoy the aphaenogasters. They can be pretty messy tho.

I really like the way those pseudomyrmex look with their big eyes and lighter color. But what I've really got my eye out for are, prenolepis and crematogaster.

Prenolepsis imparis nupial flights can be spotted as early as mid February.
