Like the title implies, I want to buy a queen in Virginia. Preferably near Virginia Beach. I’m looking for a species that’s not too difficult to raise. This’ll be my first

You already made a sale thread. ;) No need to post it twice.

I posted that one in general anting, then someone contacted me asking why I hadn’t put it in general marketplace. Either way, nobody’s got any queens in Virginia.

Don't worry, you'll find plenty next year. You'll probably be able to find tons of Tetramorium and Lasius queens.

Crematogasters have been flying a lot, when I was in Virginia 3 weeks ago I even saw a nuptial flight. If I were you I would go somewhere with lots of stones and little chunks of wood. After a nuptial flight I easily find queens under rocks and one time found multiple Lasius queens just by flipping a few. Don't go overboard, just look around and I'm sure you'll probably find one. If not, just wait till February(Winter Ants!!!).

Do you know if there are any ants flying right now? I just had a sudden spike in interest into myrmecology after seeing large yellow ants not too far from my home. I think they are Lasius Interjectus and would love trying to start a colony of them, but I think their nuptial season ended a bit ago.

Yellow Lemon smelling Lasius were what I kept finding about three weeks ago. I even found one in a chamber the other day, so they may still be flying or it could have already been in the chamber for a while when I found it.

I forgot to ask what part of Virginia. I live around Virginia Beach and find myself in Norfolk and Chesapeake a lot. If it was any of those locations, specifics would be wonderful xD

I am in Northern VA (Alexandria) and live in an area where I catch several Camponotus castaneus queens every summer. Last summer I caught 16. I keep two usually and let the rest go. Keep me in your references for when May/June comes around.
