I am located in Brooklyn, NY and just got into this hobby. I got all the materials I need to start right away but I am in need of a queen and workers to begin. Looking to buy if any is available.

Hey, Welcome to the hobby. Might not get too much available this time of year. All my queens are in hibernation. Come spring it will pick back up. There are also a few post of ants for sale in NY like these two:

http://www.formicult...-sale-new-york/

I've delt with both of them and recommend them, but it looks like they won't have anything till at least spring either.

Thanks for the recommendations. Since I'm new, I appreciate all the guidance I can get.

It does seem like there won't be any available till spring next year since it is colder now.

Guess I will be holding this off and be on standby till any new updates are available.

Take some time and read up on how to find and catch queen ants. The first ants to fly around here are Prenolepis impairs aka winter ants or false honey pot ants. As someone who has caught a few queens and bought a few, I definitely like raising queens I caught better. It's just special being able to say I was out at such and such location on this date and time and caring for the queen, seeing her have her first batch of eggs and then first workers. It's also cheaper. lol
