Hello everyone!

Recently my house has been invaded by some colony of ants. I am not sure what type of ant they are, but they are small, black and very fast. But, I have noticed something that seemed very strange to me. The wall of my bathroom is covered in a lot of these ants. It isn't an extreme amount but it is around 20 ants spread across my wall. No 2 ants are next to each other and there is quite alot of space between them. that's not the the strange part though, every single ant there will be there for hours in the same spot. Every time I go into the bathroom all the ants are in the same spot as before, not moving. They are alive though because I would nudge them and they will move a little bit. I have started to notice this same thing through out my entire house.

If anybody knows what they are doing please let me know.

Thank you!

Interesting! Where are you located? That would help figure out what kind of ant you’re seeing. Most ants, contrary to popular opinion, are idle in their nest unless needed. It sounds to me like these ants are considering your bathroom like a nest perhaps due to the warmth and humidity?

I am located in south Florida. So if this is what is happening, I would say the warmth and humidity could be the cause.

This is a definite sign that the ants have moved or are moving a satellite nest into your home. They are probably moving into your home because of the cold outside. The ants are idle as it is hibernation time in North America, although I cannot speak for Florida. From what you have described, it appears they are in the earlier stages of moving the colony. If I were you, I would call a extermination company ASAP before the infestation gets out of control. Although they may be idle now, once spring hits they will take over your home for good and at that point they may be very hard to get rid of.

Ughhh. Don’t call any ant annhilators. I’m sure there are some less destructive steps you can take so your shower isn’t their ideal nest.

If you live in south Florida, ants will always be a part of the bargain.

I admit, I may have jumped the gun a little with the first post. Before you shell out the money to pay for an exterminator, you could lay out traps to see if that would do the job. Personally, I find the food traps that the ants take back to their queen work the best for eliminating colonies. Perimeter sprays are very effective as well. The bathroom is an ideal place for them to nest as it is moist and humid, and not too cold. Nothing you could do would really prevent that. From your first post, I got the impression the ants are in more than just your bathroom, which is why I am assuming they are setting up a satellite colony in your home. If you don't want to hire a exterminator, consider finding the main entrances where the ants are coming in and spray some of the perimeter spray I mentioned before.

TheAntAnnihilators, don't let ANTdrew give a bad impression of the forums. I believe there is another pest control guy on here and everyone is welcome.

There are many reasons to exterminate ants...invasive ants being a big example. But, even as ant lovers I'm pretty sure (and quoting someone from chat) that we don't want to sleep or take baths and showers with our ants lol.

Bro, are you really still posting this in formiculture.com? Why did you join a forum for people who love ants and insects in general? If you want to pitch your chemical business, take it elsewhere!

Advertising a extermination and removal on ants loving forum? I mean, if you really believe he is here for that, then boy are you wrong. Its like selling electric devices in places that don't have electricity...

@TheAntAnnihilators don't mind ANTdrew, its my understanding that you live off exterminating pests ( and boy can ants be pests, even I had to kill feral ants in my apt. ) and my guess is that you wish to learn more about them so you can find multiple solutions to removing ants from unwanted spaces ( be it poisoning, rehoming, etc... ) so please don`t mind few people like this fellow who seems to have jumped at you :)

I’m not trying to bother anybody.

You literally threatened him to come down to VA. If anything, you are the one who should get banned :D
