The queens were caught sometime during june 2018 and about a month later, (30/07/18) they had pupae.

The two colonies weren't doing too well by themselves sadly...

12/10/18

They each only had a few workers and not much brood. So i fused the two colonies together.

3/12/18

Now they live in a ants australia acrylic nest. Currently they have around 20 workers are 2 majors.

The new major is between the queens  :D

How did you fuse them without them killing each other at first contact?

Freezer and then wake up? :)

Funny how they are all squashed up in that corner of the nest

I just chilled both colonies for a few minutes, so that they became all sluggish, then I poured both colonies into a new and bigger tube. After that, back into the fridge for 2 mins and its done  :D

Some workers escaped, and some hatched. Their worker count hasn't gone up or down much. However lots of new brood has been laid by the two queens. The second major has finished darkening.

I think they are starting to come out of their dormancy now. New batch of eggs and first instar larvae and 4 pupae. Interestingly, the major still only has a brown head after 3+ months whilst the other one had a fully black head only after a few days.
