Found a single stenamma alate a couple days ago. Flew into the dog's hair, lucky find!

I caught a Stenamma brevicone queen on the evening of 10/14/2020

I caught a Stenamma like that in August of last year, that flew into a toilet. In my journal it was listed as Myrmica.

Hi there! I went on a 6 month or so hiatus, in part due, and in part cause of the death of my colonies. 

However, I went back to the Sierras, and restarted my collection, which is now as follows:

Aphaenogaster uinta, Camponotus vicinus, Camponotus modoc, Formica cf. aserva, Formica cf. micropthalma, Formica cf. manni, Formica subpolita, Formica cf. subaenescens, Lasius americanus, Manica invidia, Pogonomyrmex salinus, Pogonomyrmex sp. 1, Solenopsis validiuscula, & Solenopsis sp. 3 (new Sierra variant).

Another stenamma, this one was under a somewhat deep set rock in a small patch of poison oak. Different species, larger as well.

Diurnal flyers, while it's still somewhat warm.

They're the closest we have to abundant native tetramorium, but no they're pretty bland ants. I love em anyways.

Yep. that's exactly how the majority of tetramorium live. We don't have any of those in the US though, so stenamma are the next best thing.
