She's a Camponotus queen. Probably C. pennsylvanicus.

Sorry for the horrible picture quality. I found her trying to wedge herself into the seam between my basement wall and door frame at 5am, so I had to make due with a container I had on hand. I don't need specific species ID for now, just possibly a confirmation that she's a queen so I know I didn't just kidnap a major worker. I will post better pics later once she's in a test tube if needed. Thanks in advance for your help!

Location: Louisville, Kentucky

Date: May 15

Size: 15-18mm. Sorry I couldn't get this more precise.

Color: Pretty shiny. Looks to be all black except for the gastor which has faint striations that altenernate between black and kind of a dark grey. Some hairs on the gastor.

Habitat: Farmland. Lots of open fields combined with heavily wooded areas.
