That looks nice! I've been wanting to do something similar to this for awhile, how did you stick the sand to the inside of the nest?

Awesome design, but what's with the diagram depcting the Polyergus sp. worker and the Formica sp. worker? Are you going to grow a colony of Polyergus / formica (slaves) in there and attach the diagram as a decal to the back of the setup? That would be pretty cool!

Mini Hearth from tarheel ants rip off, looks good :) probably cheaper and better made than their $50.00 hunk.

That looks nice! I've been wanting to do something similar to this for awhile, how did you stick the sand to the inside of the nest?

you make a negative mould from wet sand inside the container you intend to use as your formicarium. when the plaster is dry simply wash away the sand leaving the void that was previously your sand. During the process some sand sticks to the plaster and there you have it, sand coating.

 

I bought a 5kg bag of lovely golden sand for this very purpose from my local £1 shop. £1 shops are an excellent source of materials for building formicaria.
