Check out my new Yellow crazy ants colony, with more than 100 queens, wish I could add more queens to the colony so it may reaches to 500 or 1000 queens one day. I call it SUPER GOLDEN EMPIRE!!! YCA is very beautiful ants but don`t be confused by it`s looks, they could be very aggressive when against other ant species. I often saw they prey on S. geminata and even army ants, even S. invicta can`t stand a chance with YCA in small conflict.

Wait that colony has over 100 queens? Do you mean workers?

All my colonies are dead.

 Except:

  Pogonomyrmex barbatus

  Pheidole obscurithorax

  Pheidole morens

What you gonna do when they reach a million workers and eat a can of dog food per day?

We should respect all forms of consciousness. The body is just a vessel, a mere hull.

He may mean queens. There are around 20 in one of those pictures. I can only imagine what that's going to be like to sustain.

Ants don`t eat too much, don`t worry, you could afford the food.

Assuming you gave them enough food to sustain the queens and some worker force, feeding them would be a great population controller. The less food and resources [such as space] available to the colony the smaller it will be. Although I could see them cannibalizing if they weren't given enough, so finding a balance would be the tricky part...

What? Individually? Before they engage in trophallaxis? All at once?

Idk about you, but my ants eat a lot. A LOT. But they don't eat much...all at once.

What would be the purpose of having 100+ queens if he's trying to keep population low. I hope you're prepared for what is going to happen. You're growing a colony that will require the same amount of upkeep as a human. Maintenance, feeding, growth, it's all going to happen very fast, and i hope you're prepared for a lot of DIY work, or money output. Super interested to see how this turns out.

HOLY MOLY 130+ queens?! You better be prepared for the upcoming weeks. That will be a lot of worker ants to take care of.

Good god man, 130 queens?

Gorgeous little creatures, but as others have said, you're going to have quite the interesting time.

Thanks for all of your guys comments, I`ll continue post more photos of them here.

Mealworm here in China is very cheap, 1 USD could buy about more than 200 mealworm.

YCA just eat everything, so you could feed them with pork or beef. They love sugar very much, so I bought a cola for them which worth 0.4 USD, it could last for few months.

I know test tubes, food for ants are expensive in many places, but it is not in China, so don`t worry.

I had a single Solenopsis invicta queen produce 100,000 in 6 months (only started with 100 workers and very little if any brood). That was already too much for me to take care of :P

I can't imagine having 100+ queens...

Though this thread only wants me...sorta...to get hundreds of queens from the #1 most boring ants in the world (Argentine ants) and see what they do. But then I remember they are the single most boring ants in the world, and even if they were native, they'd still be the single most boring ants in the world lol.

This species though sure looks really pretty. From reading up, they are invasive (makes sense when you have over 100 queens) and are found in parts of Australia and scattered around the world. Not as widespread as Solenopsis invicta, Pheidole megacephala or Argentine ants. But, they look like they can be worse than at least one of those three species, in terms of if they ever came to the United States and competed against the other three invasive ant species.

A very nice looking species, but definitely really invasive. I guess somewhere they changed an entire ecosystem by killing lots of crabs, allowing lots of plants and overgrowth to grow that would otherwise be eaten by the crabs.

Heres the thing about the crabs: https://youtu.be/viEci2na0p8?t=6m44s
