Haven’t caught any queens yet.

Fingers crossed today they will fly.

Just want to be prepared and know their requirements

i heard bird seed are good and safe.

for the queen a test tube with some seeds.And for the semi or fully claustral who care ? she love seeds so we can risk adding some seed or even a outworld.

i never had this species .

there is a ant keeper youtube anthony turner he kept them inside a mini hearth . that what i'm going to do.

And for the chewing well i may be wrong but any species who can break a seed can chew stuff.

anyway they bite so better stay inside a block.

well next time I'm keeping my mandibles shut.
my queen died i didn't have the right seeds.i was going to buy some at the bird stores.
she had access of water,small slice of apple and bunch of no name seeds and a fat hydei fruit fly.
i wonder if it was the lack of heat at night.
the formicarium is a mini hearth.

I don’t think pogonomyrmex can climb very well. Maybe that’s why she died in the mini hearth. Or maybe the apple had pesticides on it similar to how nurbs lost his Formica aserva.

Yeah you always want the side outworld on the mini hearth for Pogonomyrmex. Feed kentucky blue grass and nyjer seeds, since some bird seeds are too round a prefect for the Pogonomyrmex to grasp with their mandibles. Heat also helps alot with the founding stages and ensures the queen gets her workers quicker. They always preform better in dirt setups in my opinion, so something like Drews Dirt Shack is great.
