I guess you could say the first one there, but its not pronounced how you where thinking. Pronounciation is very different.

Short version: Nobody can really tell.

 

Long version: The name is in Latin like all species names are. However Latin is essentially a language that came back from the grave (as the "language of the educated" in the high and late medieval ages) - and while it is considered to be relatively similar to Italian (which sort of derived from it) and German in pronounciation nobody can really say for sure because there were a few hundred years where not a single person on Earth actually spoke Latin.

Additionally, except for a few writers and roman emperors nobody actually ever spoke the "Latin" we're used to know - the Latin that was actually spoken in ancient Rome was VERY different from the written records that survived the last 2000 years and that medieval Europeans used to craft their version of Latin (which is used for the species name system Linné came up with).


We should respect all forms of consciousness. The body is just a vessel, a mere hull.
